To the African who loved me– at least temporarily
I think I loved you too, in that moment.
Or, at least, I loved your words.
For–in the way of wooing man– you
said all the right things.
Did I want babies? And a faithful
man? And real love? And a soul connection?
And in that moment, our souls did connect,
Though you probably didn’t know it
because I am too jaded
to let anything show.
I’ve heard all those pretty words before.
But, maybe you were sincere.
And because you will only ever live
as a treasure in my imagination,
I choose to believe you were.
